You probably already know that sleep is essential to good health. But many of tend to forget that it’s also vital to staying vibrantly beautiful and looking our best. After all, when you’re well-rested, you’re happier and that happiness shines through to your complexion.

However, truth be told, getting the beauty sleep you need isn’t always easy. Stress, obligations and burning the candle at both ends can keep you from getting the ZZZ’s you need to truly glow.

#1 – Skip the devices

The blue light from screens, like your TV, smartphone, iPad or Kindle could be behind your lack of sleep. That’s because this wave of light actually blocks your body’s production of the sleep hormone, melatonin, which can throw your natural sleep rhythm into a tailspin.

The secret is to switch off those devices at least two hours before it’s time for sleep. Think of it as your blue light detox time.

#2 – Turn down the lights

Once you’ve banished the blue light from your bedtime hours, try taking your sleep health up a notch by dimming the other lights around you. Skip any large fluorescent light sources and instead go for gentle lamp or candlelight.

#3 – Stretch it out

Sore or painful muscles and joints can keep you tossing and turning at night. Finally, once your head hits the pillow, do some deep breathing exercises to remind your body that it’s time to relax and let the day go. Lie on your back and breathe deeply, watching your chest rise and then push the air out through pursed lips. Repeat 10 times.
